Communication Assessment

As organizations prepare for their last quarter and 2011, significant change is still on the agenda.   Business planning for 2011 should include an organizational communication assessment to check that the current internal communication strategy and plans are still effective.   With the rumors of a double dip recession, employees at all levels are wondering what the next year will bring.  Leaders are tired and tempted to stay with what they know. A new internal communication strategy can revitalize and engage employees and leaders and set the new year off to a good start.

To help organizations prepare for 2011, Workwise Communication has launched the Workwise Communication Assessment Toolkit.  The toolkit will enable organizations to gather credible research data to ensure the right communication is getting through to employees.  The data also provides solid rationale for changes such as improving leadership visibility and line manager communication skills along with communication benchmarks.

From our communication assessment, you will identify;

  • Current level of understanding around business objectives and priorities

  • The most effective communication channels, tools and tactics

  • How to most effectively utilize your resources and budgets

  • Your internal communication strategy, plan and optimal staffing

What our assessment includes;

  •  Analysis report with recommendations on priorities, critical success factors and next steps

  • Employee focus groups   (can be on site)

  •  Executive interviews (phone or in person)

  •  Employee surveys   (electronic or paper)Desk research of current communicatio

The toolkit can be utilized in three cost effective ways:

1.      We can conduct the assessment on your behalf (including project management)

2.      We can deliver  a “train the trainer” program

3.      You can purchase our Workwise Communication assessment toolkit

Preparing a new communication strategy

This new communication head at a biotech firm wanted to evaluate the range of communication channels.  An extensive change program was on the way and she was not convinced that the current channels were going to be sufficient or effective.  We carried out communication assessment training and trained the communication team to conduct focus groups alongside our experienced facilitators.  Our findings indicated that employees had a very limited understanding of the business objectives, leaders were not visible and managers received insufficient information to confidently communicate.  As a result of the assessment, the organization implemented a leadership visibility program, improved manager business understanding and developed a number of new communication channels giving wider access to executives.

Using the assessment to provide the rationale for change

 This business division of a major pharmaceutical company had received very low scores in the annual employee survey indicating that communication was very ineffective (with the executive team being the source of the problem).  The executive team was not prepared to take ownership of the issue without further evidence so we were brought to provide the evidence for the changes that the leader felt were needed.  We trained senior managers to lead employee focus groups alongside our facilitators and we developed a communication tracking survey to ensure that the necessary changes were on track in time for the next annual survey.
